Both will record up to 60 min. in SP and 90 min. in LP. The Mini DV has better resolution than Digital-8.
Just like the cassette replaced the 8-track, the mini-DV came to replace the digital-8, simply for the fact that the mini-DV uses a smaller tape cartridge. This is being replaced by the direct-to-disk camcorders, and now the mini hard disk, which depending on the hard disk size, can record the most amount of information before having to be downloaded.
